I say ! Can you find anything better, to stimulate the old bean, than such a set of improving books ?
P.G. Wodehouse is a definite master of English humour, and his "Edwardian" stories are an absolute masterpiece !
The Jeeves Omnibus is comprised of five volumes, with plenty of novels and short stories, and what not.
They all revolve around the life and misadventures of the upper-class twit Bertie Wooster and his personal gentleman's gentleman Jeeves (a quick-witted genius).
Usually, the amiable Wooster gets involved in some sort of delicate situation, only to be helped at the last minute by Jeeves' elaborate schemes. Quite simple, but jolly effective.

Easy to read, though witty and humourous, the Jeeves stories deserve the attention of any angliciste worthy of the name !

(I also recommend the TV series Jeeves and Wooster, with Fry and Laurie. It is a perfect adaptation, really)

So ask Jeeves to bring you the good old b. and s., light a cigarette, sit back and enjoy !

Toodle-oo,

B.

My impression of Wodehouse was that his books hadn't aged gracefully...
and I much prefer Waugh when I want to have a slightly old-fashioned laugh (Brideshead Revisited and Vile Bodies being my favourites: they're quite different from each other but both are witty).
